Living Wild and Free!
Our River Otters are released on over 6,000 private, protected acres, with lake and river access after a period of 12 to 18 months of rehabilitation and live prey training here at our facility.
We use a Soft Release technique. This means we establish a meeting place; a "Feeding Station" with the otters before the actual release.
Then, for a period of time after release, we provide backup meals/fish at the feeding station until they are able to make the transition, find or build a den, and hunt and catch all of their own meals.
This transition period can be from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the otters.
